Simple Control Solutions for Standalone Machines
ExPD’s experience includes: PLC, PC and custom applications with expertise in conveyor control, conveyor sortation, palletising and barcode scanning.
When designing a standalone machine, we have found that the simplest control solution is based on a programmable logic controller (PLC) with high-quality connected components. The PLC in its infancy was, quite simply, a relay replacer. While the versatility of the PLC has grown, the physical size has shrunk. Now it is not uncommon to see micro PLCs fit into the palm of a hand.
Unlike programmable automation controllers (PACs) – designed for I/O-intensive, multi disciplined control applications – micro PLCs are ideal for controlling standalone, discrete machinery or processes that must fit into a very small footprint. Examples include machines with high-speed, repetitive, time-driven or event-driven operations, such as conveyors, sortation operations, packaging operations etc Many of these applications have traditionally been controlled by relays or custom single board controls, but are moving to micro PLC’s for the increased flexibility and simplicity they offer.
Our software capabilities range from the MicroLogix family, PLC-5 and SLC500 family to the top of the line ControlLogix family of processors. In addition to PLC’s, ExPD can also program the entire line of Alley Bradley PanelView terminals.
Adaptable Technology Solutions
Technology should enable efficiency, not stand in the way. That’s why we build technology that adapts to your existing environments. This approach ensures our Automation, Sortation and DWS solutions are compatible with your current operating systems, databases, hardware and other systems—while building flexibility for upgrade paths and future scalability. The overall result is faster, less-costly implementations, reduced maintenance requirements, and lower total cost of ownership.
Sweeping changes have engulfed the control and instrumentation world. With the availability of robust hardware, open technology and real-time, Windows-based operating systems, PC based control has become the new control paradigm for increasing manufacturing productivity. PC based control offers open and more intuitive traditional solutions at a lower total system cost and easier migration to future technologies. Easier development, integration, portability, and access ensure a flexible and efficient solution.
ExPD provide PC based control as an integral part of our industrial automation product lines. We incorporate PCs into our solutions for system supervisory control, monitoring and reporting, as well as off-line data management and analysis.
Panel Design and Building
ExPD offers in-house control panel design and fabrication. Our experienced and professional team manufacture custom panels ranging from small push button enclosures to large motor control panels.
The automation control system represents a major investment in a machine design. Beyond selecting the right controller and human-machine interface, machine builders must also select components that will positively impact performance.
It can be difficult to measure the value an individual component brings to a machine. Yet machine builders know that high-quality components can spell the difference between meeting uptime commitments and lost productivity for customers. Selecting components from a proven supplier like Rockwell Automation can help enhance system performance, lower time to market, and improve equipment reliability.
Some equipment builders have taken a one-size-fits-all approach and design equipment around the wrong-sized control architecture. The result often locks them into a control system that’s oversized or undersized for the actual performance needs of the equipment. This ultimately leads to a longer, more complex design process and overall poor customer satisfaction.
Adopting a scalable, “right-sized” control system helps improve design flexibility, allowing you to quickly scale the control system up, down or across applications to meet a range of needs, and help our customers adapt to changing market demands. It can also help ensure the price and performance of our equipment will better suit our customers’ expectations.
